LCL Level 3 Award in Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings
This qualification has been created to address the increasing need for heating systems designed for low temperatures for maximum efficiency. Learners will gain expertise in installing low temp heating and hot water systems in residential buildings.
This course covers:
- Industry standards for heating design.
- Room by room heat loss calculation.
- Sizing heat emitters for low-temperature heating systems.
- Correct sizing of pumps and pipework.
- Correct sizing of domestic hot water systems
- Basic design principals of system configuration.
Duration: 2 days (8:45am - 4pm)

LCL Level 3 Award in Hot Water Systems and Safety Course
For experienced plumbing and heating workers who need a qualification for installing, servicing, and maintaining hot water systems. The training covers compliance with Approved Document G of the Building Regulations, as well as health and safety requirements.
This course covers:
- Regulations, standards and guidelines
- Theory of understanding of expansion of hot water (HW)
- Principles of HW storage
- Design considerations
- Components and function
- Safety controls, discharge and integration
- Installation of HW systems
- Maintenance and servicing of HW systems including Unvented HWS
- Health and safety considerations
Duration: 1 Day – (8:45am - 4pm - including home study of Approved Document G)

LCL Level 3 Award in Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps
The course is designed for experienced heating installers to learn how to install heat pumps in homes and small commercial buildings. It meets the training requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and also provides information on how to join the scheme.
This course covers:
- Health and safety risks and safe systems of work associated with air source heat pump systems
- Requirements of regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing and commissioning of air source heat pump systems
- Operational characteristics of heat pump unit and heat pump system components
- Purpose and operational characteristics of air source heat pump system components
- Different types of air source heat pump systems and the arrangements for hydraulic emitter circuits
- Principles of air source heat pump selection and system design
- Design factors and principles relating to air source heat pump systems
- Preparatory work required for air source heat pump installations
- Requirements to install, commission and hand over air source heat pump systems
- How to plan and prepare for the installation of air source heat pump systems.
- The testing and commissioning of air source heat pump systems.
- How to handover to the client air source heat pump systems.
- Inspection servicing and maintenance of air source heat pump systems.
- How to diagnose and rectify defects and malfunctions in air source heat pump systems.
- Procedures for inspection, service and maintenance of air source heat pump systems.
- Fault diagnosis and rectification of defects and malfunctions on air source heat pump systems.
