The UK are among the lowest air source heat pump owners in Europe!

The United Kingdom significantly trail most European countries in heat pump sales, both in total installations and spend per head. As of 2022, the UK had installed approximately 380,000 heat pumps, ranking 13th out of 21 European countries.

However, when adjusted for population, the UK had only 564 heat pumps per 100,000 people placing it 20th, just ahead of Hungary, broken down further, Hungary has a population of 9.5m versus the UK’s 69.5m yet Hungary has more heat pumps… Government support required!

Across 2023 / 2024 incentives were put in place and the UK heat pump sales saw a 63% increase, mainly due to policies affecting new house builds, but despite this growth spurt, the overall UK heat pump numbers still place us among the lowest air source heat pump owners in Europe, so the latest government target of installing 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028 requires a huge, nationwide culture shift to how we heat our buildings and premises, step in Unitherm UK

Why Air Source Heat Pumps?

  • Energy Efficiency: ASHPs can deliver up to three times more heat energy than the electrical energy they consume, making them highly efficient.
  • Environmental Impact: By utilising renewable heat from the environment, ASHPs contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Aligning with the Future Homes Standard ensures that new homes meet the latest building regulations and sustainability goals.

Unitherm UK offer a simple, web-based heat loss calculation tool, where you can calculate which size and grade of heat pump you require for different types of properties.

Implications for Homebuilders and Buyers

For building developers, integrating ASHPs into new builds will shortly not be optional but a regulatory requirement. This shift necessitates adjustments in design and construction practices to accommodate these systems

Homebuyers can expect homes that are not only compliant with the latest standards but also offer long-term savings on energy bills due to the efficiency of ASHPs.

Unitherm UK offer its customers the complete turnkey solution, not only can you simply buy the products from us, but we also provide full MCS design and sign off where most other providers don’t.

Financial Support and Incentives

To facilitate this transition, the UK government has expanded the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, offering grants to support the installation of heat pumps in homes. Additionally, planning regulations have been relaxed to make the installation process more straightforward.

Currently with Unitherm UK you can buy a three-day heat pump training course normally retailing at £595 for just £95! Book your spot

Looking Ahead

The move towards low-carbon heating systems in new homes is a significant step in the UK's journey towards net-zero emissions. It reflects a broader commitment to sustainable living and sets a precedent for future developments in residential construction.
